Happy Birthday, Mickey!!

Hiya!

It was 65 years ago today that the magic debuted.  65 years of fun, 65 years of happiness, 65 years of joy.  For all this time we have enjoyed his films, his 
laughter, his fun and antics.  Who is that has brought all of this into 
our lives?

None other than the one and only Mickey Mouse!

Today, November 18, 1993, is the 65 anniversary of Mickey Mouse.  Mickey is 
more than just a cartoon character.  The well known mouse is a national icon.
Considered to be more recognizable around the world than every past and current 
world leader, Mickey is truely an American tradition.


Mickey's first nation wide appearance, on November 18, 1928, was in the cartoon
short "Steamboat Willie".  Steamboat Willie is the first animated film to 
make use of fully syncronized sound.  Steamboat Willie has Mickey playing
the part of pilot of a steamboat, captianed by Pete, Mickey's long time rival.
Throughout the 7 and 1/2 minutes of the short, Mickey gets into quite a bit 
of mischief trying to help his dear friend Minnie.  What a great beginning!

Mickey's career has been long and enjoyable.  My thanks to Mickey for 
everything he represents and stands for.  "If only everybody could be a little 
bit more like Mickey!"
