Dutch accent

David, about Dutch 'dialect' in US 290:

I think you mix up the words dialect and accent. In America, there
may be no difference, but I'm sure you don't want anyone talking
a Dutch dialect in a USA comic. That would be for instance
"Netuurlek! Da's mien waark" (Gronings dialect).

On the other hand, how to transscribe English with a (heavy) Dutch
accent? To me, the sentence "Certainly! That's my job" would sound
like "Surr-tenly! Det's my geop". But would that be a clear Dutch
accent to an American reader?

I can imagine that some Dutch readers would be offended if their language
would be treated like "slightly mingled German". Rosa's original
text "Zertanly! Dot's mine chobe!" sounds more German than Dutch to
me (especially the 'mine' word). Just like "Fliegende Hollander" is
German: the Dutch would be "Vliegende Hollander" (that one letter
makes a difference!).

In general, most Dutch are more flattered that their country or
language is mentioned at all, than that they are offended by wrong
use of it. I myself prefer the correct use. Just like I prefer everything
else being correct in a Barks or Rosa story.

BTW: I haven't read US 290 yet. In the Dutch translation, there's no
accent at all, of course.

P.S. There was an article in a Dutch language magazine ("Onze Taal")
that stated that all expressions with the word 'Dutch' in them,
which are _always_ negative, are banned in the political correct USA.
So no Dutch uncle, Dutch treat, double Dutch, etc. etc.
