Many (but not all) recent European VCR models can now reproduce American
NTSC tapes on PAL TVs by producing a non-standard signal that is within
the tolerances of most (but again, not all) PAL TVs. I bought such a
beast in January, and when I timidly asked the salesperson if they had
such a thing, he showed me half the models on display! Given this, I would
suggest that if you live in Europe and have bought a VCR within the last
couple of years, check its manual, as it may have this capability.
