Hello,

I'm back from a 4-days "tour de force" at Expocartoon, an
exhibition held in Rome about comics, where I saw many
interesting things that I'd like to share with you.

I also shoot some pictures, but they're not ready yet, as soon as
I'll have them I'll scan the most interesting ones and place them
on the web.

Well, a short "index" of the events that took place in
Expocartoon:

1) An exhibition devoted to Romano Scarpa, who was also in
   Expocartoon as a "special guest"
2) The selling of "Tesori 3" a book with the Barksian "Somewhere
   in nowhere"
3) An exhibition "Topolino e il '900" with original panels
4) Many other interesting exhibition, non Disney
5) Alessio Coppola, a Disney artist, drawing behind glass!! :-(
6) The meeting for giving the "Yellow kid" prize, a sort of Oscar
in comics with a lot interesting people
7) The marketplace, with the same interesting stuff!!!
8) Too many kids and Pokemons!! ;-)

So, let's start talking about number 1 (no, not the old dime!!!)

The main exhibition for this edition of Expocartoon was surely
the one devoted to the Italian Maestro Romano Scarpa, there were
both panels from his stories and cels from his cartoons: starting
with the "ancient" ones such as "La piccola fiammiferaia" and
"Ahinoo degli icebergs": there was also a model sheet for Ahinoo
with Atomino bip-bip in it: at the beginning of the project
Scarpa was unsure if Ahinoo was going to be a Lapponian guy or a
space hero...
There were also cels and *wonderfully detailed* model sheets from
his latest cartoon: "Sui tetti di Venezia - Le avventure di Marco
e Gina"

On the comics side, there were original panels from some of his
stories, including two of my preferred ones: "Lo scozzese
volante" e "L'uomo di ula-ula". But there were also some other
interesting things: the drawing Barks did for Romano and that
gave him the idea for "Brigitta e il casco d'oro", a drawing for
an alternative ending of "Topolino e la fiamma di Kalhoa" were
the ancient princess is still alive, hidden in her island, an
unpublished page for "Avventure ad Eurodisney" unpublished
because of the opposition coming from Lucas Film: the page was
inspired to Star Wars; than a lot of many fan drawings, one of
those was the one Scarpa dedicated to Barks.

Scarpa was there, and I can assure you he is a very kind person!
He was ready to answer to anyone asking him for an autograph,
also if he was slightly injuries on his right hand! He was there
with his gracious wife, who was used by him years ago as a model
for his Snow White stories.

I shoot many pictures of him and of the exhibition, they are now
on their way to be developed, just wait!

Then there are also a couple of things that made me mad: two
errors in the text explaining the panels at the exhibition: the
first one was stating that the first **two** stories from Scarpa
were "Biancaneve" and "Verde Fiamma"... the unknown author of
this text is not very expert on Scarpa's work: his **first**
story is "Biancaneve e Verde Fiamma"!!!!
Then there was a page from "Paperino e il record forzato", and
the text was explaining that this story was never published in
Italy... Inducks says:

TL #1224 Paperino e il record forzato
CD #105 Paperino e il record forzato
ATM #18 Paperino e il record forzato

What I'm asking myself is: "The Inducks is freely available... so
WHY they don't use it???" ;-)

...to be continued...
