Hi DCmailians!
I'm Gilles MAURICE, the french fan DonRosa spoke you about a few times.
I didn't know this section of the site, just the characters', the stories' and the artists', but when DonRosa showed my work here, I realised that it was too bad not to become a part of that! I have so many questions that don't find answers in sites or in the few comics I've got... ( Don't worry, I won't annoy you with Disney cartoons!...). You know, it's very difficult to work with french names, or non-english names, because you can do a lot of mistake because of the first translators' mistakes (for instance, I saw in a german family tree that Gladstone and Gus were brothers, only because they've the same name! What a pity!
I'll ask you questions later, here I just want to say HI !

I answer the few questions which have been asked about my work:
a.. I made Don and Della bear in 1920 because Sigvald did in his Who's Who, and it was perfect (he would have done his first film aged 14, met his uncle aged 10, take his nephews aged 22...)
The date 3/13 came from things I've just heard, and the film "Los tres caballeros", the only cartoon DonRosa think good, in which
is showed on Donald's birthday present's sticker that the scene took place on a 3/13. I don't know if it is a friday, because I haven't got a 1920 calendar!... but if somebody knows all the friday 3/13 arond 1920, he is welcome!
It's IMPOSSIBLE for him to bear on 1934, how could he meet his uncle in 1930 ?(Lo$ 11), so why keep this date of june 9th?
OK, the egg(s) could have been layed on 3/13 and hatched on 6/9, around 1920...
a.. About the verb "hatch", yes, it would be more appropriate. I don't like this idea about Ducks hatching from eggs, because, as DonRosa says, the Ducks are human beings, in fact, so I think it's very silly, but on another hand, many cartoons, an episode of QuackPack, this old comic from 1984 and even "The Fountain of Youth" from Barks show or evoque that the Ducks bear in eggs. Althought DonRosa consider that as a joke, in the fountain of youth, when it's said to Donald: "If you stay too long in this water, you'll become an egg!", I maintain this Idea. But if those characters are human beings, so BadWolf and Li'l Pigs too?... When Disney is involved in the cannibalism problem...

a.. Sorry, but I don't know anything about astrology...

Some things have changed in my tree, since I first sent it to DonRosa, and some other stayed:
  a.. Since DonRosa told me:
"""I also dislike seeing Donald's sister being named Dumbella -- that's such a
stupid name. These characters don't have dopey names like that. (I assume
you know the English word "dumbbell" and what it means. Donald's twin
sister would not be a dumbbell!) But I see you do try to include all the names a
character has been referred to by even if they are confusing and
self-contradictory. Okay, that would solve this problem. Della would be her
real first name, and her mean brother Donald might have called her
"Dumbella" to annoy her. You have her "nickname" as "Della" which sounds
like a normal name, not a nickname. "Dumbella" sounds like a nickname. You
should change her listing to: Della "Dumbella" Thelma Duck, don't you
agree?""", I changed the "" place.I thought that "Della" was a diminutive for "Dumbella"!...
b.. DonRosa:"""Naturally I don't object to seeing a tree featuring characters other than
those created or used by Barks, which was the sole purpose of my tree. But
you have one brief moment when you recognize the "Ducktales" TV series
characters, which really goes against my grain! It was generally not a bad
show, but I think it should be ignored and forgotten as having anything to
do with the Duck Universe of the comic books! But that's up to you.
But similarly, I think it's a big mistake to pull any Duck characters from
animated Disney cartoons. Disney treats these characters as *actors*
filling whatever role is needed in any film. The unnamed triplet Ducks in
"Donald's Diary" were Huey, Dewey and Louie acting as other characters.
(Generally, I dislike seeing ANY Disney work being made part of the Disney
Duck comic book Universe, something they NEVER contributed to and should
not share any portion of the credit for!)"""
Me:Ok, cartoons are *films* with *actors*, but, to me, if there are an "Aunt Gertie" in "Stuck on Christmas" and some brothers in "Donald's Diary", it's, to me, because they've really existed. They took actors who looked very much like the real Gertie and the others. But I 'll explain that in a "Duck history" that I'm making (not yet finished, I'm adding pictures... :-)) I'll send you when finished.
It's the same thing for Bentina and Webbigail, but I've removed Johnny Genie and Bubba, who are, to me, non-existents characters.

c.. I added Sgrizzo Papero only now, because I wanted to put him before, but I didn't know where, and when I saw in a website , that his English name was Kildare Coot, I know now where to put him! So I added his parents too .(I made Kildare "Sgrizzo" Coot, son of Betty Broodhen and Combout Coot, son of Casey Coot)

See you soon !
