In addition to the examples others have mentioned, there is also, of course, a clear reference to World War II in Barks FC 178, Christmas on Bear Mountain, where the Scottie imposter says on the second to last page, "... with some chemical spray I stole from a spy during the war."

The "war" can only be World War II.
