>Doesn't current Catholic doctrine state that the pope IS infallible?
I'm sure the Church is very serious about it. Whether you agree with
several hundred million Catholics or not, I don't think making fun
of people's religious beliefs should be part of a discussion of ducks.

Yes, Papal infallibility is a part of Catholic belief. But that doctrine
only goes back to the 19th century, and it applies only to a certain
rigidly speficied type of statement -- so rigidly specified, I don't
think it's been invoked as many as a half-dozen times. To say that
a statement must be retroactively true because a Pope said it hundreds
of years ago is a joke that even a Catholic might make. In fact,
a well-informed Catholic would see instantly that it IS a joke. As
a Recovering Catholic myself, I see nothing wrong with a little gentle
ribbing like that.

By the way -- I sent a note about this several days ago, but something
seems to have gone wrong, as it didn't show up on the List. I heard
a RUMOR that Disney approached CrossGen (a small American comic book
publisher) about the possibility of licensing the Disney characters.
After considerable negotiation (according to what I heard), CrossGen
turned Disney down, for reasons similar to Gladstone's for not renewing
the license. Does anybody know anything about this?

Quack, Don
