Scrooge's Money Bin is filled with invalid money?

If I understand correctly, this is not the case in the US, where, other
than being replaced because of normal wear and tear, coins and notes
remain in circulation forever. I don't know whether this is still the case
with new-style dollar bills, but it was certainly the case back in the
80s, when I was in the US, where, among the then common federal reserve
notes, I would find the occasional, older, silver certificate. And don't
forget Don's "Money Pit", where the old coins in Scrooge's bin were still
valid currency, but were worth a lot more than face value to collectors!

Back when the switch to the Euro occurred, I was chatting with an
American friend. At some point the subject turned to European money,
and I realized that she kept postponing changing some British pounds
that she had, thinking that they would be legal tender forever.

This does raise an interest point about Glomgold, however: is *his* money
bin full of useless, out of circulation, Rand notes? (On the other hand,
the sign on his money bin is a pound sign, so perhaps his bin is filled
with gold pounds, which are always worth their weight in gold--literally!)
