The news these days if filled these with politicians arguing what to do
to improve the
economy. One basic principle: increased consumer spending will create
additional business activity. This will lead to improved profits for the
owners of those businesses. Barks' story "Spending Spree (WDC&S 144, 1952)"
illustrates this so well that his grammer-school readers can easily see
how this
works. With Donald's suggestion and help, Scrooge suddenly starts spending
tons of money. His businesses perk up, and on the final page more
profits come
back to the owner (Scrooge himself). We need more politicians who learned
economics at a tender age reading Barks' lessons.
