This is little bit off topic, but well.... The whole idea is a bit stupid: 
that in order to be a proper comic it should have speech balloons. That 
drops off Hogart's Tarzan, Foster's Prince Val and others. You could also 
claim that a proper movie has to have sound. Chaplin and other silent films 
wouldn't be then movies at all. The use of narrative captions is just a 
different way, bit old fashioned technique, but it is still a comic. IMO.
