For me it's his attention for details. Lettering things outside the text balloons in a perfect way (like the TV scene in Rosa's Life of Scrooge chapter 12). We don't see that much attention from other letterers that often.

I recently read a story "How Things Work Out", which plays in 1999, 1979, 1959 and 1939. A wonderful story (non-Disney, BTW) by Alan Moore and Rick Veitch. One of the details that I loved was that the lettering in the various years match the lettering that was mainly used on comics in those years. So Todd used 4 different "fonts". Nice touch!
