AND I REPLY:

Don is referring to FORBIDDEN PLANET, which I happen NOT to think is the
greatest science fiction film ever made.  It has too many "cowboys and
Indians in space" clichés to put it right at the very top. (And I don't want
to hear anyone say they weren't clichés yet in 1956.  Anyone ever see the
FLASH GORDON and BUCK ROGERS serials of the 1930s?)  But there is more than
enough thought-provoking material about the Krell to make it ONE of the
best.

Considering the premise of the story was based on Shakespeare's THE TEMPEST
it would have had to work hard NOT to be thought-provoking.
