Reading in America and elsewhere

Part of the problem with low sales of comics is the general decline of
reading of all kinds.

I have read that book stores in America are kept alive by less than 10% of
the population. Consider: the population of the U.S. is around 270
million. If a book sells a million copies, it is considered a huge
success. But that is less than 1% even of the adult population.
In classical music it is even worse: the market share is at 3% right
now. If a classical CD sells 5,000 copies, that is considered a huge success!
So if Disney comics are selling several thousand copies, perhaps that is
not so bad.
