Alfred (Fred) Abranz has been animator of (non-Disney) Wile E. Coyote and Daffy Duck cartoons. Around 1950 he left the Warners animation studio, to devote himself wholeheartedly into doing comics for Western instead. Since he had worked for Warner it was natural that he mainly did Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig, Daffy Duck and other Warner characters for Western, but he also did other characters.
Abranz worked with a 22x28 inch format. First he pencilled the pages, and then they were turned over to the editors for approval. After that he lettered and inked the pages. Soon he got tired of the second part of the process, though, and then on he only did the pencils. At the end of his career at Western he also wrote some scripts.
At first Abranz mainly did 32-page stories, but later on the stories became shorter and shorter, until the norm was 4-8 pages. That was one reason why Abranz quit at Western and started working directly for Walt Disney Productions instead, for the over-sea market.
