Hi, Folks!
Mark Mayerson said, when I told him that Mouseville was a
copyright infringement on Mighty Mouse's town,
"It's odd that Paul Terry has a claim to Mouseville. I
remember Mighty Mouse living in Terrytown, which was a double pun. It
punned on Terrytoons, the name of Terry's cartoon series and also on
Tarrytown, a real place in New York State."
Actually, the Terry 'toons were not the least bit
consistent... sometimes Mighty lived in Terrytown, other times in
Mouseville. When the now-infamous 1988 Bakshi-Kricfalusi Mighty Mouse
TV toon appeared, the name Mouseville was chosen for good. That name
appeared in Marvel's MiM comic, too... on the cover of more than one
issue. Many Disney Comics staffers also did work for Marvel. I think
that at that time, getting involved with a Marvel legal entanglement
was the last thing Disney wanted...
Fabio: Sounds like they've got their heads on the right way
in Italy. Mickey in Duckburg?! ;-)
Yours,
David Gerstein
