Don,
	This is probably too off-the-wall to be of use to you, but there 
used to be a quackball theory that the earth is doughnut-shaped, with 
openings at the poles.  One version of the theory had it that flying 
saucers were from the people who live on the inside of the earth.  The 
basis for the theory is the supposed stability of the torus shape (though 
I note that we haven't found any torus-shaped planets or asteroids so 
far).  Supposedly Hitler was a believer in the theory and sent a ship to 
look for the opening; I don't know if this is true or not, so it probably 
isn't.
	By the way, it's nice to run into you again.  I was one of your 
tormenters when you were answering endless questions for the RBCC (the 
specific one who asked for the WDC&S index, which probably left an 
impression on you).  I'm glad to see that you've gone on to fame if not 
fortune.  Your art was good then, but it really has become much better 
than I ever would have guessed.
