Don,
Where UNDER the world is your D.U.C.K. (Dedicated To Uncle Carl from Keno)
on the cover of USA #28?. Is it possible that the bottom of the "N" in
UNCLE covers part of it? Will you tell? I stared at the three foremost
Terries or Fermies, until nearly crossed eyed, thinking I saw the letters
cleverly concealed in the heavy inked areas. I look forward to
searching for D.U.C.K. in all of your covers and opening
splash panels ever since we purchased and read the article in your
first Don Rosa collection publication (and THANKS for including the
names of the two stories where D.U.C.K. had been edited out).
Please consider doing another such Rosa Collection, not just so I
can have the joy of relooking for all of those dedications.
Actually, our three alltime Rosa favorites are "Mythological
Menagerie", "His Majesty McDuck", and "Cash flow", in that order. Our
one copy of WDCMS #523, "Mythogical Managerie" is terribly worn from
reading and howling with laughter over nearly every panel in this
story, and no other artist/writer has ever had us in such perpetual
stitches on every readreading except Carl Barks (and Thorne Smith, not
comics, but that's another story). The various farm animals are oh, so
proud in their new garbs.
His Majesty, McDuck, is an excellent example of what we believe could happen
if Quebec ever separated from Canada. I have shared this comic with so many
teachers over the years, that it, too, is totally worn out. I know how to
get another copy of that one, though.
We gave away our ownly copy of the issue that had "Cashflow" in it and so
don't even remember which issue of Gladstone's original run it was.
"Cashflow" is the story in which you (I believe) created the
frustrated inventor who struggles ever to create "odorless cabbage"
and had created instead the weapons that enabled the Beagle Boys
to have "cashflow", and he has been in more than one story.
Actually, WDCMS #524 had a one of your stories called, "Recalled Wreck" that
was cleverly done and probably deserves reprinting, too. I have written to
Gladstone regarding this as well. Thanks always for the joy Gyour art and
stories bring to our and so many peoples' lives.
Sincerely,
