For example: why did the Beagles need both a button and a bird to
eavesdrop on Scrooge. The button could be a short-range transmitter,
the bird had to be around to receive the message and record it, and
bring the recorded message physically to the Beagles. The transmitter
could be short-range because otherwise the whole world could listen to
Scrooge's words and ruin whatever plan the Beagles would make.
Another example: why weren't the Beagles interested in the horse itself.
The gold might be not real gold, or the Beagles might not have heard
Scrooge saying the horse was gold-plated, while they couldn't see it
in the dark.
I could think of more explanations of things already mentioned in a
previous discussion on this list. Those explanations would have made the
story a bit more acceptable.
