Well, playing tricks on the first day of April is a custom among
European peoples. In France the victim of such practical jokes is called an
April fish. In Scotland, a gowk or cuckoo. And in English-speaking countries,
an April fool.
It is true, what you say about Alva losing Brielle in 1572.
But it just remained as a *saying* that Alva loses his glasses (Brielle) on
the 1st of April. In Dutch glasses is equal to 'bril' and rhymes to April.
That's not the reason that people fool eachother on April 1st,
though. But the tradition of fooling others on the first of April originated
in Europe a looooong time ago (way before Alva in the 16th century).
Now, I have to figure out what April Fools has to do with
Disney comics...
