Although I received a notice that DCML had indeed received my answer to
Barry's query regarding the Big Bad Wolf / Northern Irish Hound story, I
never saw it printed on the list. Therefore,I submit it again, with an
apolgy in advance in case this is the second time. On Saint Patrick's Day,
Zeke mistakes a large Hound for being a "Green" Irish (citizen or
descendent of Eire or a sympathiser) when the latter is actually an
"Orange" Irisher - who summarily pounds Zeke to a pulp for his faux pas.
No. That story was not printed in WDC & S nr. 186. The Bad Wolf story in
that issue was about Zeke bringing a hound (animal non-speaking character)
home to Li'l Wolf, but using it to track down the trail of the Pigs by
sniffing at porkchops. I checked all the WDC issues from 1954 - 1957.
The story you seek was not in those. I don't have time to check all my US
comics, and many of my Dutch comics are in Europe (where I do not return
until early June). But, I do not remember that story being a Dutch
production. Perhaps Harry F. can help us with that information. I can't
imagine that the US Western Pub. Editors would allow such a political and
ethnic storyline to be printed in USA. The "wearing of the Green" vs.
"wearing of the Orange" refers to a violently political struggle between
existing ethnic populations in actual nations. That was generally against
Disney policy, and, to my recollection, has only occured when the USA was
at war (and then only referred to the nation that USA was fighting
against). Even then, such a reference was only used as a single gag, not
tied to the theme of the story. I would "bet the farm" that that story was
not a US production. However, I DO remember having read that story years
ago. Perhaps it is a Danish production. Hej, Ole, -
can you help us with this one? Or maybe David G.? Or anyone else who
knows where the story was printed. If you do have a printing of the story,
please provide the story code number along with the magazine issue number
so we can use INDUCKS to track the publications in our respective
countries. Thanks. - Rob Klein
