Folks,

Earlier today Niels asked about an article against
Duckburg in a Norwegian newspaper. The article
was yesterday, 17th of April, in our largest paper, VG and a
full page it was. Title was "We who despised Duckburg" and
the author is Sigurd Ohrem (Ptui, ptui, ptui) - described as
an author and researcher of culture. It is on p. 43.

I will not translate the thing - it is too long and he
writes convolved and confusing.

His objections are many - he looks behind the
facade and find disturbing things. One is the total lack
of family and sex life, wich must hide something
dark. Another is Donald's and Scrooge's obsession
with money as their common drive for action. They
both want it, and it has a symbolical meaning.
Quote: "Money is objects for collection, motivational symbol
and sacrament of redemption in this pre-oedipal
quasi process, which of course never leads to anything else
than successfull reader socialisation in the best Buena Vista
spirit. The show must go on." The article has more stuff like that.

Going on to Mickey Mouse, he is the antithesis to the
"brave and well adjusted ducks", he is the smart detective
that never detects anything that can be dangerous to the
system. His loyality to the totally incompetent chief of the
police is one of the great mysteries of the world litterature,
unless it is a father neurosis from Mickey". And then,
"Anyway, Mickey is the origin of the expression
"the usual suspects"" (The last is in English and obviously
he has not seen "Casablanca" either.)

It might be concluded that this is a spoof. But it does not
seem so, the guy is really hopping mad and disgusted
with the Disney, Buena Vista and the whole thing. He seems
quite serious.

Good grief.
