Uncle Scrooge compared to Ducktales

I don't know how many of you have heard of or watched the T.V. show 
ducktales, I first got interested in Scrroge that way and now that I know a 
lot about the comics and origin of it, I realize that ducktales isn't very 
good.  Their stories and characters aren't very good and the episodes they 
have based on Uncle Scrooge comics aren't that well done.  I was curious to 
know if anybody knew why they didn't base the show completely on the comics 
and put it in the past when the comics take place.  Just curious to know if 
anybody knew the answer to this question.
