Your note on the spring is highly interesting. I wondered what
the story's fate might be abroad and if editors might not just
decide to skip it.
Changing the art is another way. I think you change things a
bit like this for such purposes: if the pun doesn't work, drop it;
if the target language has a pun you can't help think of and
which is related to the story, add it; it'll make up for what humor
may have been lost elsewhere And if a minor alteration of the
art can help, I think it's OK: the story's point is that people scam
one another by playing on words, not that it is a *spring*. That's a
nice adaptation. Any information regarding other languages?
I have a little collection of panels that are quite a challenge to the
translator.
ex: "Return to Plain Awful", final panel: "they made it *square* !"
"Last Sled to Dawson", p 2 panel 7: "I guess I'm just another
sourdough who's *sour* on the Yukon and without enough
*dough* to go home!"
