Even if "Paperin Fracassa" is a parodie it still neither handles well the
Disney characters nor stays close to the spirit of the book it is based
on.Martina has done much better in other parodies.Such as "Paperino e i tre
moschettieri"(I TL 162-A,I Tl 163-A.The story examines the lifes of five
different French ancestors of the Ducks between 1618 and 1620.Not only we
have parodies of many scenes of Duma's book and ancestors of other Disney
characters appearing but the story gives its own explanation of how the
Ducks ended up on America. They left Europe to avoid service in the
thirty-years war.The last pages of Donald's look-alike loosing all his
fortune to Scrooge's look-alike have always been my favorites in this
story. It seems luck has little to do with riches.Nice story.
There are also "Paperiade"(I TL 202-A,I TL 203-A,I TL 204-A) and
"Paperodissea"(I TL 268-A,I TL 269-A) two of my favorites by Martina. The
first presents Gladstone as the Beagle Boys new leader and Scrooge's rival
in a new conflict. It is one of the most interesting versions of
Gladstone.Donald playing Achiles' part is a great interpretation of the
character. If "Paperin Fracassa" presents Donald as brave then what could be
said about "Paperodissea" which presents him as the leader of Scrooge's
private army in a ten years war against indian bandits and as returnin
wanderor? The story also presents the most shady role of Elvira Coot as she
is practicing tax evasion.
And finaly "Paperino Don Chisciote"(I TL 137-A,I TL-138-A,I TL 139-A)
which presents the spirit of the old Spanish nobleman making Donald his
successor with all that comes with this role.
In comparison to all four stories "Paperin Fracassa" prooves weak even as
a parodie.
