Duckburg and the Soccer World Cup

Hi all!

In the most recent Donald Duck pocket book published
in Norway there is a story about Duckburg sending a
team to the 2002 Soccer World Cup in South
Korea/Japan. And in the past there have been a lot of
such stories about Duckburg participating in the
Olympics, Soccer World Cups, etc. Even Carl Barks and
Don Rosa have done such stories. However I find many
reasons to be very critical to see more in these
stories than just fiction.

First how can a single city participate with it’s own
team in a Soccer World Cup or in the Olympics?
Specially when it’s definitely not an independent
nation as Duckburg is definitely a part of Calisota
which we have learned is a 51st state in the USA. So
as I see it, any Duckburgians in a Soccer World Cup or
in the Olympics would have to be a part of the
American squad or change their citizenship.

What are your opinions about this matter?

Best regards from
Sigvald :-)
