You misread:  It's just because an editor thinks a turkey is funner that a regular platter,  that the turkey stays!

  the artist misunderstood the discription and drew in a turkey platter. The editor thought it was funny, and rather than having the artist or another artist redraw the panel(s), kept it as is.     
      Now if the artist drew the turkey on purpose, 
and the editor changed it, then the artist could be upset with the editor for tampering with "his" story....
  as it is, this story is more like the 4th nephew appearances
