Anyway, I grew up with comics from the Belgian/French
"school" with great stories by:
Gochinny, Uderzo, Morris, Charlier, Giraud, Hubinon,
Graton, Duchateau, Denayer, Vance, Paape, Greg and
Derib just to mention a few.

Well I think this whole discussion shows that there
are various opinions about what comics are
good/important and what comics which are not that
good/important. The German Top-100 list shows that. It
lacks "The Phantom" by Lee Falk which is one of the
most sold comics in Norway.
