I've a list of four authors who used a grandpa of Gyro:
*Barks, in Uncle Scrooge goes to Disneyland
*Rosa, in Lo$2 and "the Cowboycaptain of the Cutty Sark", in these three
stories, he looks like Gyro with a longer beak, a big hat, and is called
Ratchet.
*Ivan Saidenberg, Irineu Soares Rodrigues, and Verci de Mello, in "História
de Patópolis:
O século das luzes" (B 810094) and "Nos tempos do avião a lenha", from
1983. In these stories, he is Prof Pardalto, with a black beard and a flat
hat (Eurêka in French)
* Tony Strobl and Steve Steere, in "Flipsy Tootle" (S 65114), in which he
also has a beard and a flat hat, and is only seen on b&w photographs, and is
only refered as grandpa Gearloose.

Don Rosa, althought it was probably not intentionnally, made me believe that
these characters were the same, because in "the captain of the cutty Sark",
he now wears a flat hat, and it could the same cap he has in Strobl's and de
Mello's stories, and in the same story, he tells at the end that he's going
to open a bakery, and it's probably then that he moved to duckburg ( in
strobl's and de Mello's stories, he is in Duckburg). then, he could have let
his beard grow up when he arrived in Duckburg... that was Grandpa Gearloose
aka Ratchet "Eureka" Gearloose's chronology :-)
