Regarding this "Grandma Duck" that Gilles has been good enough to post for
us:

- she is shown wearing the kind of clothing that would have been worn by
middle and upper class ladies in America around the year 1800, very old
fashioned indeed. See portraits of George Washington's wife Martha, as an
example of a grandmotherly figure from the time. The hat is called a mob
cap, and the shawl would have been worn tucked into the top of the dress, as
shown in the first panel (both would have been white, however, even at
Christmas time). The ladies then kept their very long hair coiled up under
the cap. The beehive hairdo we usually see on Grandma came in style later
on. I suspect this is the same Grandma, who has simply updated her
fashions, and put on a few extra pounds in more recent times.
