In Germany at least he could have kept the old money because
it will have its value without any time limit. He could not
spend it, of course (at least not without exchanging it for
new money first). But he would not have spent it anyway, wouldn't he?
Doesn't Scrooge already keep tons (and special pools) of
foreign and possibly outdated money at his bin?
Scrooge loses billions of value every day just by storing his
money instead of having the money work for him. Or has Duckburg
had a deflation for decades? I believe Scrooge is not in business
for value (i.e. spending power), but he just loves the money.
So I would follow Sigvald's opinion and suppose Scrooge would
cling to his old money.
He would have an additional problem with the Euro: The new coins have
a Nickel content which is much too high - so he could develop a
contact allergy. There is nothing better for your health than good
old gold dollars to dive in.
