Barks said that he thought of the ducks as humans who just happened to look like ducks. Maybe he meant that they were like ducks PHYSICALLY, but acted like humans. In "That's No Fable" (U$32), $crooge says that if he had swum across the Fountain of Youth "I knew I'd reach the other side (as) an egg".
