Damn right. I try to av_O_id using smileys, except in messages or posts
that "require" them, but still only in internet. Using them elsewhere 
reveals the lack of the writers skill and will to think of an alternative 
for that little face. And a good writer knows how he should make it clear to 
the reader that the text was written in a sarcastic sense.
      And mark that this message was not meant to offend anybody.
