I go just about anywhere that I'm invited (and they pay airfare and gimmee a
table). I never pay my own way due to the fact that if my appearance was so
beneficial to my Duck comics that it succeeded in selling an extra
*trillion* copies, that would only put money in other people's pockets,
never mine. But if someone invites me to a convention, I sit at my table
100% of the time that the show is open, never stopping for breaks. As I am
myself first a comics fan, my duty to other comics fans is of paramount
importance to me. It's just too bad that I can't do nice drawings like I
used to. But I still do color drawings for people I know... such as if Katie
showed up -- I know she's a fer real true-blue fan and not an eBay lout.
There is a nice annual show in Baltimore (just held it a few weeks back)
that I'm puzzled I don't get an invitation to. It's run by Mark Nathan whom
I've known for many years as a big Duck/Barks fan (as are all the American
comic dealers/fans over 40). But actually I think I've always been already
invited to another show on his weekends so he might have known that and
that's why I don't hear from him. If you know how to contact the Baltimore
Comic Con people, you can suggest me as a guest for next year. (I never
contact show sponsors to get myself invited anywhere even if I'm anxious to
go to see friends or such... another of my no-self-promotion policies.)
