I think I've read that Barks at one point did add color notes to his
stories where it was vital (such as the Philosopher's Stone story where
Scrooge's eyes at one point turn yellow). When Barks realized the
colorists ignored his notes, he stopped adding them.

Don't ask me for a source on that one, though.
