My wife is playing some really hard video game equivalent of those "Find the Hidden Objects" pages we first saw in the doctor's waiting room as we thumbed through "Highlights for Children". Just now she asked me what a sextant looks like. I do, so I went over and looked over her shoulder to help her locate the one hidden in the picture on her screen. After spotting it, I realized (and proudly announced to my wife) that the first place I saw a sextant identified by name was in the pages of a Carl Barks Donald Duck story (The Golden Helmet). So, I've just seized upon this idea for a discussion thread where we could share some of the little factoids we first learned from Duck comics.
I'll throw in another one, which I only just learned from Don Rosa's Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck: The obscure "'Law of Apex' of 1849 says that whoever owns land where an ore vein is closest to the surface owns the entire vein."
