As mentioned in a previous post, I traveled down to Binghamton
NY and met with Archontis Pantsios. He and I went down into
the Amish country of south Pennslyvania and spent most of the
day (Sat-4/15) with Don Rosa. He was a guest for the opening
of a 'museum' for Donald Duck items (old and new). Most of us
fans know that Don himself has an impressive collection of DD
figures, toys,etc.....oh, and a few comic books.

Don kept busy talking with everyone and signing autographs.
There were about 20 people who were 'members' (they paid
dues for a newsletter subscription), but most of them had only
been interested in "Disneyana" merchandise and never in comic
books. Don patiently explained that the DD of Barks was very
different than the Disney cartoon version. Most were surprised
to hear that 'duck' titles were not even published in our country
at the present. Don tried to explain the history of Disney comics
to them, but I sensed they did not understand fully. Later at
supper, one person innocently remarked " Don does not seem
to like Disney much.".

On the lighter side, it was the first face-to-face meeting between
Archontis and Don. We were lucky to sit right across from Don
at supper and discuss many subjects. I must mention that Don
was late arriving from the museum to the restaurant (he rode with
one of the owners). When we asked what caused the delay, he
explained that as they were about to close and leave the museum,
a large group of tourists walked in and wanted to buy BEANIE
BABIES!!! (LOL - I don't need to explain the irony there, do I?)

I must also mention that we were surprised that another DCML
member, Chuck Munson (and fiancee Becky Renn) came all the
way from the Washington,DC area even though they could only
stay a short time. He is included in some photos we took and as
soon as I get them developed, scanned, and online I will let you
all know. It was a great day worth the long drive. Thanks, Don.
