1st Scrooge McDuck in 1943??

Hey everyone.
On duckfilm.de one can see a picture of the SPIRIT OF '43 Scrooge
prototype:

This character's resemblance to the "Bear Mountain" Scrooge is
indeed quite strong, suggesting that it must have influenced Barks in some
preliminary way. But the SPIRIT OF '43 duck is not a "real person" in the
Duck world. He's instead a manifestation of Donald's conscience, his better
self: that's why he appears from a cloud and wears Donald's shirt. He
doesn't really exist on his own.
On the other hand, a version of the *name* McDuck appears to predate
even SPIRIT OF '43. Scotland's House of Tartan offers kilt cloth in various
registered Scottish clan tartans. One is a "MacDuck" tartan, with 1942

Given the spelling of the name, I can only imagine it was a
publicity stunt for Donald.
