I own a small book called "Donald Duck macht sein Glück" which describes
Donald Duck's biography in a prose text with a few pictures. It is a
childrens' book, published in 1976 and is a (free) translation from the
French. This story is (C) Disney 1966:

Donald is too lazy to hatch from his egg, so his mother leaves the egg
alone and disappears. He hatches 3 weeks too late as he begins to
suffocate. Strangely enough he is born with childrens' clothes, knows
his name and immediately goes to town to earn money. Instead he is
caught by the police and sent to the orphans' home. He flees, is caught
and flees again when he should go to school. He takes a series of jobs
but is always fired because of his short temper. Until in one of his
jobs by chance he gets to dance in the theatre - and is successful. He
also learns to become an actor and a singer. He gets a letter from the
world-famous Mickey Mouse, asking him to come to America (!) to join his
movie cast. Hollywood fame and money follow. After a while Donald's
short temper returns and he falls back into poverty. He decides to start
a circus together with Mickey. This is when his family appears: Grandma
Duck, Scrooge (who is described as "rich but lazy"), Scrooge's wife (!)
Gitta, HD&L and Donald's "distant cousin" Daisy (they immediately get
engaged) to help him with the circus. The circus is a sucesss - Happy
End :-)

To sum up the most surprising infos:

- Donald's mother left him to die because he was too lazy to hatch from
his egg
- Donald is not born in America
- Donald is immediately conscious after hatching from his egg and can
care for himself
- Mickey lives in the same universe as Donald
- Scrooge is married to Gitta Gans (=Brigitta MacBridge)
- Daisy is Donald's (distant) cousin
