José Carioca

He debuted in the movie Saludos Amigos (1943).

Sometimes he's been called Joe Carioca in English instead.

He has appeared in a lot of Brazilian Disney comics, where he lives in Vila Xurupita in Rio de Janeiro. (Carioca is an adjective meaning related to Rio de Janeiro.

In Brazil an entire family of characters has been developed to accompany José in his adventures. They are:

Nestor: a big black bird, Carioca's best friend.
Pedrao: tall, fat and strong, another friend of Carioca. (It looks very human).
Rosinha: Carioca's girlfriend. (At first she lived near him in a poor vicinity, but later she got a rich father.

In Brazilian stories Carioca also has a secret super hero identity, Morcego Verde (= the Green Bat).
