This list has been prepared by Rich Bellacera (last update: 02/12/93)

LISTING OF DISNEY'S PAST & PRESENT DTA & DC RECCURING CHARACTERS

This listing is a fairly exhaustive compilation of current and recent, new and
some old Disney Characters based on the "mainstream" characters (i.e. Mickey,
Donald, Pluto, etc.), Syndicated cartoons (i.e. Ducktales, Tailspin, etc.), to
include subordinate characters with re-occuring roles. This list is probably
not as complete as I'd like it to be and I welcome any possible suggestions,
alterations, etc. you may have (no flames please). Some are Comic book/strip
related. Also, some characters like Donald Duck, Goofy, Bad Pete & Launchpad
fit several groupings so I limited their entry to the main grouping I believe
best suits them (except where the category disclaimer applies). Characters
identified by a ~ mark have, so far, appeared only in comics.

DTA (Disney Television Animation)|| DC (Disney Comics)|| DA (Disney Afternoon)

(NOTES: This list is comprised of a mixture of recurring cartoon animated
characters and recurring comicbook/strip characters. Many of these characters
rightfully belong to other Disney universes as well, while many others could
easily fit into this grouping (such as Uncle $crooge and Bad Pete), but to
prevent mass repetition I have attempted to limit relisting many characters.
According to one source, in GULLIVER MICKEY, 1934, Mickey's nieces & nephews
are listed as Morrie, Monty, Maisie, and Marmaduke. The 1934 toon, MICKEY'S
STEAMROLLER introduced Morty & Ferdie. Also Minnie's nieces (*) were possibly
introduced in the comics produced by Jim Fletcher. Mickey and many of his
friends are residents of Mouseton, USA.).

Little Hiawatha Bucky Bug~ Tic'n Tac(Bucky's nephews)~ Gremlin Gus~

(NOTES: Other characters such as Jaq, Gus, Suzy & Perla (Cinderella) and Scamp
(Lady & the Tramp), although seen quite regularly, will be listed under their
respective Film catagories (currently work-in-progress), while others, such as
The Little Mermaid & Aladdin, have subsequently become continuing DTA series
and have been granted their own space in this Listing. Bucky Bug and his
friends live in Bugsville, L'il Hiawatha and Davey are from the Old West, and
Gremlin Gus (and the other gremlins) found their origin in Disney's wartime
animated exploits and platoon/squadron emblems).

(NOTES: Minnie 'n Me & the Disney Babies are currently merchandising lines of
characters designed for pre-teens and toddlers, respectively, and, of course,
their parents. Also, it would seem that the trio of Minnie/Daisy/Penny are
comparable to that of Mickey/Donald/Goofy. Disney Babies merchandise can be
traced back to the early '60s, while Minnie'n Me began as late as 1990.
Category Disclaimer applies).

ROGER RABBIT: RR

(NOTES: These characters find their Disney origin in the movie "Who Framed
Roger Rabbit" which is based on the novel "Who Censored Roger Rabbit" by Gary
K. Wolf in 1981. Roger's Disney-based continuity began in with the premire of
full-length feature film on June 22, 1988. Roger, Jessica and the others are
residents of Toontown, USA which, according to Gary Wolf was Santa Cruz, CA,
but in the movie was somewhere behind Hollywood, CA, and now has found it's
home in Disneyland (Aneheim), CA in 1993, where the town of Duckburg can also
be found?).

THE WUZZLES: WUZ

(NOTES: All of the above creatures live on an island called "Wuz", hense the
name Wuzzles. Each is a composite animal: Bumblelion = Bummblebee & Lion, and
the last three are the island's resident villans. Some of the voices behind
the characters were JoAnne Worley <Hopopotamus> and Henry Gibson <Eleroo>.
Disney's Wuzzles was the first of a continuing series of Disney "made-for-TV"
animated shows which eventually manifested the format now known as "The Disney
Afternoon." Wuzzles premiered in the Fall of 1985).

(NOTES: The Gummis live in Gummi Glen within the Kingdom of Dunwym. Based on
the popular European candies "Gummi Baren," the Gummis bounced their way onto
DTA in the Fall of 1985. Characters with an asterisk (*) are Barbic Gummis
whom the Glen Gummies often encounter. The Barbics live in the ruins of the
old Gummi capitol city before the ancient Gummies fled to New Gumbria).

FLUPPY DOGS: FD

(NOTES: Disney's Fluppy Dogs was a one hour TV special which aired November
27, 1986, and was intended to be a pilot for Disney's 3rd DTA series. It
featured six magical pastel-colored talking dogs which came through an inter-
dimendioanl doorway into the lives of a ten year old boy, Jamie, and his
neighbor, Claire; they were the intended prey of the evil Wagstaff).

(NOTES: According to their FIRST 'toon appearance, the Donald Duck short
entitled DONALD'S NEPHEWS, 1938, the Nephews' mother is listed as "Dumbella",
Donald's sister. Uncle $crooge and the cast of Ducktales live in Duckburg,
USA. *This character is a "duck" in comics named Dudsworth. Disney's
Ducktales has been a unique vehicle for bringing comicbook characters
(especially Carl Bark's creations) to the animation format; the reverse is
usualy the case. Such characters as Gyro, Magica, the Phantom Blot, Dangerous
Dan, the Beagle Boys and others have, with occasional modification,
successfully translated from comics to cartoons. Ducktales began in the Fall
of 1987).

THE NEW ADVENTURES OF WINNIE THE POOH: WTP

Christopher Robin Rabbit Eeyore Gopher

Piglet Roo Tigger

(NOTES: The last two characters are not characters from the A.A. Milne classic
children's books, but are Disney creations. Winnie, Tigger and the rest all
live in the Hundred Acre Woods. Disney's New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
premiered in the Fall of 1985 and was Disney's 5th attempt at a DTA series.
Disney blocked out an hour timeslot and officially called it "The Gummi Bears
& Winnie the Pooh Hour." Subsequently, it was seperated again).

CHIP 'n DALE RESCUE RANGERS: C&D

Chip Chipmunk (1 tooth/blk nose) Fat Cat Mr. Klordane

Monterey "Monty" Jack Wart (lizard) Percy the Thug
Gadget Hackwrench Mepps (cat) Detective Drake
Zipper the Fly Snout (rat) Plato the Policedog
Chi-chi~ Foxglove (bat) Gidget (Gadget's cousin)~

(NOTES: Chip 'n Dale were originally created as foils for Donald, but due to
tremendous requests they were soon granted their own cartoon shorts. Now,
however they have graduated to a syndicated program. Premiered Fall of 1989.
Since most early accounts have Chip 'n Dale encountering Donald Duck it is
possible that they reside somewhere just outside or near Duckburg, though
their interaction with "humans" might actually suggest some other locale).

TALESPIN: TS

Baloo Bear Louie the Ape Shere Kahn
Kit Cloudkicker Don Karnage Buffy Van der Schneer
Rebecca Cunningham Gibber Hacksaw
Molly Cunngingham Dumptruck Klang
a.k.a. "Dangerwoman" Mad Dog Colonel Spigot
Wildcat Ratchet Sergeant Dunder

(NOTES: The main characters of Baloo, Louie and even Shere Kahn originated
from the Disney classic THE JUNGLE BOOK. It seem that the role of Mowgli
has been replaced by Kit since he and Baloo use the familiar affectionate
nicknames of "Lil' Britches" and "Pappa Bear". Wildcat is vaguely Bagdeera.
Rebecca manages an airfreight agency under the name "Higher for Hire" in the
city by the sea, Cape Suzette. Baloo & Kit fly the plane The SeaDuck for the
Agency. Louie the Ape manages a tavern and Shere Kahn is a magnate. With the
addition of Tail Spin to the DTA line in the Fall of 1990 we saw the beginning
of a brand new Disney showcase two hour timeslot appropriately called "The
Disney Afternoon." The first line up consisted of GB/DT/RR/TS/ The tradition
has dictated that each Fall one show would drop from the line up and a new one
would begin. Old DTA programs seem to retire to early Saturday mornings or
the Disney Channel. Subsequent DA line ups have been DT/RR/TS/DW (1991) and
RR/TS/DW/GT (1992), this Fall should be TS/DW/GT/B! followed by DW/GT/B!/AL
in 1994?, and GT/B!/AL/DD in 1995?).

DARKWING DUCK: DW

Drake Mallard (D.W.) Webra Walters Morgana MaCawber
Launchpad McQuack Strong Guy Archie the Spider
Gosalyn Waddlemeyer-Mallard Steelebeak Eeek & Squeek the Bats
Honker Muddlefoot Tuskerinni Bushroot (Reginald)
Herb Muddlefoot Splatter Phoenix Spike the Man-Eating Plant
Binkie Muddlefoot The Liquidator Steerminator (Taurus Bulba)
Tank Muddlefoot Quackerjack Clovis (Taurus' secretary)
Nega-Duck Moliarity J.Gander Hooter (SHUSH Director)
Neptunia Hammerhead Agent Gryzlikoff (SHUSH)
Stegmutt Ammonia Pine Doctor Sara Bellum (SHUSH)
Dr. Slug (DW's Archenemy) Ample Grime MegaVolt (Elmo Sputterspark)

(NOTE: This is the first "spin-off" series, having its roots in DUCKTALES.
Originally it was conceived as a James Bond-type show based on the character
"Double-0 Duck" that appeared in Ducktales, and the plan for Launchpad to move
to the new series was set from the start. Gosalyn has sometimes appeared as
D.W.'s costumed archer sidekick called "QuiverWing Quack", though Launchpad
is his 'official' sidekick. NegaDuck has occasionally lead the archfiend
group called the Fearsome Four consisting of MegaVolt, Bushroot, QuackerJack
and the Liquidator. D.W. is the leader of the superhero group called the
Justice Ducks consisting (on occasion) of Launchpad, Stegmutt, Neptunia,
Morgana and Gizmo-Duck. S.H.U.S.H. once had DW train several agents to be
members of the DarkWing Squad consisting of Darkwing Deer, Darkwing Dodo,
DarkWing Dog and DarkWing Donkey. Steelebeak, Amonia Pine and Ample Grime are
members of the nefarious organization F.O.W.L. whose henchmen are called
Eggmen. Taurus Bulba was 'resurrected' by F.O.W.L. to become the cyborg now
known as the Steerminator. D.W. and the rest are residents of the spralling
metropolis of St. Canard. Darkwing Duck premiered in the Fall of 1991 on DA).

GOOF TROOP: GT

Goofy (a.k.a.: Percy P. "Bad Pete" Percival Weasel (Pete's pal)
-Dippy Dawg@ Peg Debby (Max's cousin)
  -George G. Geef# P.J. (Pete, jr.) Gilbert (Goof's nephew)~
  -SuperGoof*~ Pistol Wilbur the Grasshopper*
-Mighty Knight*~ Max (Goofy Jr. or Georgie?) Chainsaw (Pete's dog)
-Sport Goofy* Penelope (Goof's wife?) Waffles (Goof's cat)

(NOTE: Characters/names identified by an "*" signify names that do not
necessarily apply to the series GOOF TROOP, but they were included since they
are definitely part of Goofy's career in both animation and comics. "@"
signifies the name by which Goofy was originally called during the beginning
of his career in both animation and comics, only later was it changed to
Goofy. "#" signifies a name which Disney called Goofy in the many shorts
where he portrayed Mr. Average Middle-American Suburbanite. SuperGoof is his
superhero name whenever he wears his red longjohns/blue cape after eating his
Super Goobers <peanuts> he keeps under his hat). The premise of show GOOF
TROOP seems to be Goofy is a single father raising his son Max. GOOF TROOP
picks up on the long-standing fued between Goofy & Bad Pete. Pete is married
and he & his wife, Peg have two children P.J. and Pistol. Max & P.J. are
best friends, and Max is a little uneasy about being known as Goofy Junior.
Traditionally Goofy has always lived in the same hometown as Mickey, but
according to the new series Goofy has moved to Spoonerville. Goof Troop
premeired in the Fall of 1992 on the DA).

THE LITTLE MERMAID: TLM

Ariel (TLM) King "Red" Triton Grimsby* Ursula the Sea
Flounder the Guppy Alana Carlotta* Flotsam
Sebastian the Crab Adonna Contessa Pearl Jetsam
Scuttle the Seagull Adella Prince Eric Glowfish
Spot the Killer Whale Andrina Max the Dog Lobster Mobster
Stormy the Seahorse Atina Gil (Merboy) Da Shrimp
Urchin (merboy) Arista Crab Louie Evil Manta
Ol' Dudley The Mertwins

(NOTE: This series is a prequel to the movie of the same name. King Triton and
the mermaids live in the undersea kingdom of Atlantica. Characters with an
asterisk (*) have only appeared in the original movie (so far). Gil is
a regular from The Little Mermaid storybook series (slightly older than
Urchin from the series), and he is Ariel's friend, but she is the one with
the case of 'guppy-love'. Disney's The Little Mermaid is a stand-alone show
which premiered in the Fall of 1992 as a result of the popularity of the
feature film of the same name).

(NOTE: RAW TOONAGE is a variety showcase presenting cartoon shorts and music
videos on Saturday Mornings. Features and segments usually include a guest
host tapped from any Disney cartoon source(?), a "Here's Bonkers!" episode, a
"Totally Tasteless Video" (TTV) short subject, and a "Marsupilami" (MAR)
short. Disney's Raw Toonage premeired in the Fall of 1992 and is a half hour
anthology for the characters listed above. There seems to be plans to expand
upon the plans in the works to possibly expand this format?).

(NOTE: Bonkers is an out-of-work toon-turned-detective. Presumably he is
from Toontown in the tradition of Roger Rabbit. His current career has led
him to team-up with the human, Miranda Wright. Currently Bonkers is show-
cased in RAW TOONAGE, but he is scheduled to graduate to the DISNEY AFTERNOON
probably in 1993. In his current run in RAW TOONAGE he occasionally works as
a deliveryboy for a wholesale merchandising company called 'The House of
Everything.' Here's Bonkers! will be the 11th DTA show produced by Disney).

ALADDIN AL

Aladdin/Ali Ababwa Jafar Djinni the Genie Captain of the Guard
Princess Jasmine Sultan Iago the parrot The Bedoin Peddler
Abu the monkey Magic Carpet Rajah the tiger Gazeem the thief
Djinni(?) the Genie Abis Mal Prince Uncouthma Nafir Hassanouf
Cave of Wonders (Tiger God) Sadira the Witch

(NOTE: Inhabitants of Agrabah, a city in the Middle East. Unlike TLM, Aladdin
will not be a prequel, but rather a sequel or follow-up series which picks up
where the movie leaves off; beginning with the aborted marriage of Aladdin and
Jasmine and the return of Jafar the now evil genie. Aladdin is scheduled to
join the DA line up in the Fall of 1994).

DUCK DAZE: DD

(Donald Duck) (Dewey) (Uncle Scrooge)
(Huey) (Louie) (Professor Ludwig von Drake)

(NOTE: This is a preliminary new series to premiere in the Fall of 1995 and
to be added to the DA line up. It's premise, so far, involves the irrascible
Donald now trying to raise three teenages (HD&L) with occasional appearances
by other popular Disney characters like Uncle $crooge, Prof. von Drake,
Gosalyn and the cast of Goof Troop(?). It is possible that this show will
be a follow up to Ducktales with Donald returning from the Navy and resuming
his charge of the Nephews. %Concievably there is room to depict the Nephews
interacting with many other (then) teenage versions of Disney's Junior
characters like Morty & Ferdie (Mickey's nephews), Molly (Minnie's niece),
April, May & June (Daisy's nieces), P.J. (Pete's son), Max (Goofy's son),
Newton (Gyro's nephew), Honker & Tank Muddlefoot, Doofus, Bubba Duck and
Webby and many others? Maybe a Disney-style Tiny Toons University?).
%pure speculation.

*******************************CUT HERE***************************************

The above listing still has several gaps. If anyone has any comments of
corrections or even additions I would be happy to discuss them.

Please keep in mind the three qualifiers I have for this list is:

1) the character has appeared in a comic or cartoon more than twice, and/or
2) the character is above average in importance to other characters on the
list (which may remove the necessity of qualifier #1). For example the
character is a relative with the possibility of recurring at a later time.
3) Characters should not be included just because they are someone's favorite
if they have had only one appearance and then are forgotten.
4) Or the character appeared in the series' pilot/feature-length movie and
there was some indication that the character would conceivably remain
   affiliated with the main characters.

Thank you. Your input would be most welcome.

Also, some of the commentary may be deleted or modified as information
changes.
