DAVID: I really got a kick out of your "Catman" story in DDA #32. Wasn't
"Dr. Pulpheart Clabberhead" a psychologist in a MAD magazine Wertham spoof?
Donald burning the boys books brought back painful memories. In 1953 or
'54, at St. Mary's school in Elizabeth, NJ, the nuns had a real comic book
burning. For a week beforehand, we kids were encouraged to bring in our
"bad" comic books for sacrifice to the flames. I did bring a few, but most
were smart enough to save their good (really bad stuff like EC's, crime
books, etc.) comics and keep them hidden till the bonfire was over. To my
credit, I don't remember turning in any Disney stuff. I recall several
hundred destroyed in the flames and there wasn't a dry eye among the kids
in the crowd. BTW, how did the boys end up with so many comics in the last
panel when Donald had fried 'em early in the story?
