Thanks a lot for all the useful info on the published sets with
Gottfredsons MM dailys. It sure cleared up a lot of things for me (and
others too, probably). But as usual: the more info you get; the more
questions you can ask... ;-)
As I get it, there are *two* main editions. One printed by "Comic Book Club
Germany" (CBCG) and one by Nichols (I assume this Nichols is John Nichols
of Bear Mountain Ent. ?). The Nichols edition should be printed as 200 hard
bound sets. This much I get!
The German edition I am still a bit uncertain about. Are we talking 500
copies of *each* of the 26 yearly collections (books/slipcases) or does
this number vary over the years (as it did with AR's Barks Library b&w,
where the print runs on the later issued sets in general are smaller than
for the early ones).
Also on the German edition; this variation between books and slipcases
(Portfolio), does this occur *within* the same year? I mean would it be
possible to collect a full set consisting of *either* loose pages *or*
bound books? This also leads me to ask if the total number for the CBCG
edition is really 500 (Portfolio) + 300 (books) = 800 ??? (Not to confuse
things further I neglect the number of only 20 copies of the books...)
About the contents: Is it strictly just the dailys or are there other stuff
in there as well like articles, interviews, additional art or pictures? I
understand that the prints are done from newspaper prints, not original
stats? Are these editions really boot-leg or did they have Disney's
blessing when they were done? It sounds a bit strange that collectors would
not make an effort to achieve the best quality when doing such a massive
and expensive collection.
