The first one was reproduced in DDA Album 3:
"At first Barks regarded the adventure story as Mickey's domain. He drew this
scene in 1935, when applying for work at the Disney Studio"
("The Classic Barks", Geoffrey Blum)
I scanned it along with Gottfredson strips I believe Barks drew inspiration from:

SPOILER Alert:
Penny Quiz answer below...
>> "A penny SAVED is a penny EARNED!"
>> (Which story? I intend this one to be *very* difficult.) :-)
"Billions to Sneeze At", WDC&S 124, Jan '51, Album 17,
p 7 panel 2, in the frame on the wall!
Nice one, really clever.
It obviously had to do with Uncle Scrooge (though I feared the difficulty
was that it was not). I remembered a couple of story about saving a
penny or a dime. I almost missed it! I thought about this story but was
looking at the *dialogue*!
Anyone found the answer to Don Rosa Quiz # 1? (fairly easy)
("The Lone Ranger!")
