1/1/1 [or 010101, if you prefer]:
Twice a year the University of Oslo opens its more or less
pearly gates to the "general public", at least, specifically,
to the high school teachers and pupils of Oslo. Thus there
is a "pedagogical theme day" (perhaps primarily for the teachers)
and a "high school day" (perhaps primarily for the pupils),
both typically in January. This is the chance to hear the
latest on astrophysics, discuss ethics in religion, learn more
about Dostoyevskij, to be confused by oil economics, to be inspired
by the sex life of snails, etc etc. Each department selects a
lecturer & a theme from its staff. People visiting the university
campus on these days compass themselves from lecture to lecture,
with the help of a nice booklet of information distributed to
teachers and pupils in advance; this information is also available
on the internet.
