I can't speak for the USA mail service, but I am currently working on a
computer program for the Dutch mail service. It automatically interprets
hand-written addresses on envelopes. In our program, periods and commas are
no problem; they are small enough to eliminate. But slashes (/),
underlining, and all other kinds of extra stuff *can* be a problem in
automatic recognition. And if the computer program cannot recognise the
address, it has to be done by hand. This may indeed slow down delivery.
RIGHT!
