"Wuwelack" Etymology

Interesting speculation, Leo, but I honestly don't think you are on the
right track. The name also appears in a short Scamp story, here as "Der
wüste Wuwelack", attributed to some rather scary monster. Quite contrary
to Wu Wei.

Actually, the name Wuwelack has a slightly Slavic ring to me. Given the
fact that Erika Fuchs spent most of her childhood in Eastern Pomerania
and Silesia, which are both part of Poland now, the name might well stem
from some local myth or fairy tale. Maybe it is a character similar to
Silesian mountain demon Rübezahl, who knows.

But this is just speculation on my part.
