That was something I was ALWAYS curious about because it seems so odd that
they "supposedly" exist in the same universe but never intertwine. Excuse me
if this has already been answered, I'm just really now checking my inbox and
found 20+ emails dedicated to the list, so I have catching up to do. ^^
A few questions:
A) What was this story about and what was its name? Sounds like it could be
the grounds for a really cool crossover type thingy with the right writer
and artist...
A) Does the Mickey Mouse crew still live in Mouseton which was finally named
during Disney's tenure? Of all the things they did do I was very rather glad
that they gave Mickey's city a name cause it just kinda gave his universe
more of a sense of "independence and identity" from the Duck world so to
speak. Mickey's city remaned nameless for decades in America and it finally
felt good to have the area defined from classic Gottfredson and Murry
locales. I just felt that putting Mickey in Duckburg just didnt feel right
at all to me. -__- I know David Gerstien was trying to promote this concept
after Disney faded away, but has it stuck? I'd like to hope so.
B) If it has, has it maybe been established how far Duckburg is from
Mouseton since both are defined as being in the fictional state of
"Calisota".
And lastly - I'm gonna go into fanboy geek mode for a sec. ^_^
I've been trying to peg things down as far as a timeline goes between the
Donald and Mickey universes. Looking at the Gottfredson timeline of things,
it seems Mickey Mouse kind of started as either a very young kid or an
almost teenager type if you wanna be technical about it (which is how I see
the pac man eyes area as evolving over time) and later grew into an "adult"
once he started the whole pants and shirt area after gaining pupils.
i know Don Rosa normally goes from Barks universe and doesnt have much care
for the mouse characters so to speak (nor did barks), but if you ignore that
for a sense I was trying to figure out how try and meld the Barks/Rosa
Donald and Scrooge timelines with the Gottfredson timeline. Reason being is
that everybody pretty much sees these two sides of the coin as the
definitive universes for the both sets of characters. Assuming that the
pie-eyed Mickey mouse was indeed MUCH YOUNGER and Donald was MUCH YOUNGER
when he was used in Gottfredson stories (with the Wise little Hen design) is
it possible to assume that Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck DO indeed know each
other in the Barks universe but live cities away and rarely if ever see each
other except on "Special occasions"? A few Murry stories did establish
Donald knowing Mickey as a kid, and much of Donalds teenage/young life has
never really been established outside of him living on Grandmas farm. Is
there a possibility that - ignoring the wise little hen design - those early
Gottfredson stories with Donald could have taken place when the two were
"nearer each other" in some form or fashion? Just a thought.
Lastly I know that Gottfredson didnt use Donald again, I'd assume primarily
because Al Taliaferro had Donald in his newspaper strips, but what I wanna
know is what was the last Gottfredson story where Don makes an appearance?
Gottfredson never drew him again after that did he?
...
OK that ends this "geeky question period". ^__^
