Mainly for two reasons:

a) This is a modern style different from the traditional 3-tier and 4-tier
styles I grew up with in the 1970s.

b) To me this style is connected to modern non-Disney comics. F.ex the
comics version of the latest Star Wars movie "Attack of the Clones" uses
this style. So I guess this style is typical for the Marvel super-hero
comics and other modern US-comics - comics that I have never found
interesting.
