Art vs. Story

On the question as to whether the artwork can damage a good story: for me, it can be a problem..
I am so imprinted - like a duckling! - with Carl Barks' artwork that any great variation from his style sours me. This is why I did not like William Van Horn efforts at first: I found the style just too "wacky" for my taste, and too far away from Barks. Don Rosa's closer style, although it is much more detailed, was no problem.
Eventually I got used to William Van Horn and really liked his stories as they appeared more and more near the end of the Gladstone era. But the "getting used to" took time: having good to great stories helped of course!
And no, for me nice artwork cannot save a poor story.
Best Wishes!
