>>>>The story I remember old Quagmire from, is the story with the old
family
clock. Here, it seems to me that he was pretty rich and wealthy... I don't
get it. If that's the truth, then why would his brother be a poor miner?
Because Quagmire was a cheep bastard which would not shear anything with
his
own family? Doubt it, since Scrooge inherited him. On my homepage, which
will be revealed soon, I will present an edited family tree, where Fethry
and Quagmire is removed. I don't say that Quagmire don't exist, I just
don't
think of him as the BROTHER of Dingus.

Ah! You're right! Sorry! I was confusing Quagmire with *Swamphole* McDuck
(a swamphole and a quagmire are essentially the same thing, sorta). So, in
answer to the question someone asked, I did not create Quagmire McDuck --
he came from Barks' "The Heirloom Watch" story in U$ #10.
But that's the only thing you (Olaf) are right about. Are you going by a
memory as confused as mine (concerning Quagmire/Swamphole) or did you read
a faulty translation of "The Heirloom Watch"?
The story states that Quagmire was $crooge's "great uncle" -- this means
his grandfather's brother. The exact same way that $crooge is HD&L's great
uncle, being their grandmother's brother. We can safely assume Quagmire was
$crooge's grandfather's brother rather than his grandMOTHER's brother,
because he had the ruby chip from the eye of the McDuck heirloom watch. (By
the way, I think it's allowed for your grandfather to have a brother who is
your great uncle; even in Greece, but only if you were born at the exact
same instant as your grandfather... but I digress...)
Next, why could not one brother be rich and another be poor? There could be
dozens of reasons or situations for that. However, nowhere in the "Heirloom
Watch" story is it stated that Quagmire is wealthy. Quite the contrary --
all $crooge recalls of him is that he never spent any money, and he (rather
illogically?) *hopes* that he was rich. But it's ultimately demonstrated
that he was poor since his entire estate consisted of one tiny inexpensive
ruby chip.
So, if you do a Family Tree, it will be nice to see Fethry eliminated...
but if you don't have Quagmire McDuck as the brother of $crooge's
grandfather, it will be not be correct (if you want it to agree with
"Barksian facts").
(It's fun to analyze comic books I read when I was 4 like this!)
